My name is María
I’m a fully qualified Spanish teacher (ELE), certified by Oxford House Barcelona and
accredited by the Instituto Cervantes.
I was born in Valencia and moved to the most beautiful city in the north of Spain, San
Sebastián, when I was 24. A few years later, I got bitten by the travel bug and moved to
England for a while before settling in Athlone, Ireland, where I live today.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy arts and crafts, swimming, and spending time out in nature.
I studied History of Art at university, followed by further studies in Graphic Design and
Photography.
My Journey as a Teacher
While I’ve taught various subjects over the years, my real passion for teaching Spanish began
in England during the pandemic.
-
I was living on a farm alongside people from all over the world, and a few of them became
my very first students.
-
I enjoyed the experience so much that I knew I wanted to make a proper career out of it.
- Once I gained my certification, I never looked back!
My Teaching Philosophy
I work with students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds.
-
Immersive Approach: I believe that the best way to make progress is to
have the lessons delivered entirely in Spanish.
-
Extra Support: However, I am also happy to switch back to English if you
need that little bit of extra support.
-
Empathy & Confidence: As a language learner myself, I understand how
important it is to have an empathetic tutor who can build confidence. I’ll always do my
utmost to tailor our lessons to individual needs.
What I Offer Today
- Online Tuitions: One-to-one online lessons.
- In-Person Classes: Face-to-face sessions in Athlone.
- Goal: To give my students a rich, immersive language experience.
Exciting News!
Looking ahead, I’m working on a brand-new project: offering Spanish retreats in a lovely,
picturesque house in the south of Spain. Guests will be able to practise their Spanish with
locals and enjoy fresh, healthy food grown right in our vegetable garden. I can’t wait to
bring this vision to life!
